Election Office Duties
The Edwards County Election Department is responsible for overseeing voter registration and election operations to ensure fair and accurate elections. As the central voter registration site for the county, the department maintains the official voter registration database, ensuring that records are up to date and compliant with state and federal election laws.
Key responsibilities include:

Maintaining voter registration records and processing new registrations, updates, and cancellations.

Generating voter registration lists and reports for election officials and public use.

Election preparation, including organizing ballots, managing polling locations, and ensuring a secure and efficient voting process.

Voter Registration
- Central voter registration site for Edwards County
- Works with outreach voter registration sites
Voter Registration Database Maintenance
- Maintains voter registration database
Voter Registration Lists & Reports
- Generates voter registration lists and reports
- NVRA-mandated confirmation mailings (required for purging voter registration files)
- NVRA-mandated Notice of Disposition mailings
- NVRA-mandated Notice of Disposition/Rejection mailings
Election Preparation
- Accepts filings for public office
- Prepares newspaper publications for elections
- Reviews election law
- Prepares certification of board workers for party chairs and individual board workers
- Solicits election board workers, polling site setup workers, and advanced voting board workers
- Prepares ballot proofs for ballot printing and scanner programming
- Orders all ballot stock and voting supplies
Election Day & Results
- Scans all ballots on election night
- Prepares results and provisional ballots for the County Board of Canvassers (convening the Friday following each election)
- Certifies all election results to the public, media, and Secretary of State
- Prepares “Certificate of Nomination” and “Certificate of Election” forms
Polling Locations
- Procures polling precinct sites
Requirements for Voter Registration
- Citizen of the United States
- Kansas resident
- Be 18 years of age before the next statewide election
- If convicted of a felony, have had civil liberties restored
- Has abandoned former residence and/or name
